There is a lot we can learn from history. This case of a Cargo Ship's Intercontinental voyage is very interesting.
In August 1986, Khian Sea cargo ship started with 14000 Tonnes of Waste (including arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury, dioxin etc) from Philadelphia as the local government could not find a place to dump the waste in any of the neighboring states. The contractor who was given the job of disposal
Refused entry by Dominican Republic, Honduras, Panama, Bermuda, Guinea Bissau (in West Africa), and the Netherlands Antilles
Dumped 4000 Tonnes of waste in Haiti under the guise of "Fertilizer Import", however when it was found that its toxic waste, the ship fled from there.
The ship went around for 2 years , 11 countries , 4 continent journey through Senegal, Morocco, Yugoslavia, Sri Lanka, and Singapore looking for a place to dump its toxic load
Turned away at gun point at two ports
Changed name from Khian Sea many times with names like Felicia, Pelicano,San Antonio to escape notoriety.
Finally was caught at Singapore and when probed, it was found that the toxic contents were dumped in the ocean along the way.
