Goa fell from 3rd position in 2021 to 10th position among the 14 states in the less than 100 urban local bodies (ULBs) category.
Below are the score cards of the 5 prominent cities/towns in Goa and how we have fared in various parameters in the rankings. While Panaji has made it to the national rankings and ranks 224 out of 382 cities, none of the other towns/cities have made it to the nationals.
The rankings shown in their scorecards is of the Western Zone.
Some prominent aspects where all towns/cities in Goa have fared poorly are
Cleanliness of Public Toilets
Citizens grievance redressal mechanism
Cleanliness of drains
City Beautification.
How can we as a community work with our municipalities to get better on these rankings next year ?
Today being Dussehra is a very "Shubh Muhurat" (Auspicious occasion) to reflect and start taking actions like
a. starting composting, being mindful of generating waste etc.
b. working with our public representatives as partners in making our cities better
c. building communities which collaborate for on-ground action.
Can we also distribute black gold (compost) on the next Dussehra, plant more trees in the open spaces and make our surroundings more beautiful ? What do you think ? Please share your thoughts and ideas and we can all discuss how to take this forward.
Let us all #PlayOurPart in the effort to defeat the Mahishasura of garbage with our actions. Today is the day of celebration of the victory of forces of good over evil.
Happy Vijayadashami to all.
